Tell Me Something (2025)
Super 8mm, Iphone footage, Mini DV / stereo / 30:15 mins
Tell Me Something is an intimate exploration of family and memory. Following the death of her grandmother, filmmaker Olivia du Vergier inherits a collection of previously unseen home movies. Shot entirely on Super 8mm by her late grandfather, the films document her mother’s childhood in 1960s Melbourne, Australia. What emerges is a portrait of a family that contradicts the story she thought she knew. Determined to reconcile these conflicting versions of the past, she invites her mother to watch the footage with her. Working with her mother’s voice and her grandfather’s images, du Vergier becomes engaged in an act of weaving memory with speculation and intention: a practice intrinsic to how we all attempt to make sense of where we come from.
